What EV Charging Rebates Are Available for Strata Buildings in BC?

If your strata is exploring EV charging, there may be more than one rebate path available. Right now, BC Hydro’s multi-unit residential program includes support for EV Ready Plans, EV Ready infrastructure, and standalone EV chargers. In some cases, total support across the EV Ready stack can reach up to $137,000 per apartment, condo, or townhome complex, depending on eligibility, project stage, and current program rules.

    The 3 Main Rebate Paths

    EV Ready Plan rebate

This helps offset the cost of having a professional EV Ready Plan prepared for the building. BC Hydro currently lists this rebate at up to 75% of eligible costs, to a maximum of $3,000.

    EV Ready infrastructure rebate

This is for the electrical backbone that prepares the building for future EV charging, such as panels, conduit, and related infrastructure. BC Hydro currently lists this at up to 50% of eligible costs, to a maximum of $600 per parking stall and $120,000 per building/project.

    Standalone EV charger rebate

This helps fund eligible Level 2 networked EV chargers in apartment, condo, and townhouse complexes. BC Hydro currently lists this at up to 50% of eligible costs, to a maximum of $2,000 per charger and $14,000 per complex. If the infrastructure rebate was provided separately, the charger amount can be reduced to $1,400 per charger.

Why this matters for strata councils and property managers

Most buildings do not lose time because rebates are unavailable. They lose time because they start in the wrong stage.

    • Some buildings need planning first.
    • Some need to confirm eligibility first.
    • Some already have enough information to move toward infrastructure or chargers.

The important thing is understanding what stage your building is actually in before money is spent in the wrong place.

    Common Mistake

A lot of buildings jump straight to “How much is the charger rebate?” before confirming whether they should first be dealing with an EPR, an EV Ready Plan, or pre-approval. That usually creates confusion instead of progress.
