How Much Can a Strata Get in EV Rebates in BC?

Potentially, quite a lot — but only if the building is following the right path. BC Hydro also says that, across the EV Ready stack, eligible apartment, condo, and townhome complexes can access up to $137,000 in funding under the current public program structure.

BC Hydro’s current multi-unit rebate structure includes:

    Planning-stage funding

If your building needs an EV Ready Plan, BC Hydro currently offers up to 75% of eligible costs, to a maximum of $3,000 for that planning stage.

    Infrastructure-stage funding

If the building is ready to install the electrical backbone that will support future chargers, BC Hydro currently offers up to 50% of eligible costs, to a maximum of $600 per parking stall and $120,000 per project/building.

    Charger-stage funding

For standalone chargers in apartment, condo, and townhouse complexes, BC Hydro currently lists up to 50% of eligible costs, to a maximum of $2,000 per charger and $14,000 per complex. If the infrastructure rebate was provided separately, BC Hydro notes the charger cap can be reduced to $1,400 per charger.

Local top-ups may increase the total

BC Hydro’s local top-up page says that, where a local top-up is available, total support can reach up to 75% of purchase and installation costs, subject to the listed caps and the specific community program.

The number alone is not the strategy

This is the part that matters most for strata councils and property managers: The rebate amount only matters if the building:

    • qualifies
    • follows the right sequence
    • has the right documents
    • applies at the right stage
    • and does not start work too early
